Welcome to Notre Maison/St. Joe's
Notre Maison/St. Joe's is a home for children of all abilities in the town of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Gertrude Bein-Aime is our fearless leader and with the help of our wonderful sponsors and advisory council, we strive to serve the children that come to Notre Maison/St. Joe's.
Thank you to all of the families and individuals that help make Notre Maison/St. Joe's possible.

Current unrest in Haiti and how you can help:
“We are just surviving here,” says Gertrude Bien-Aime, director of Notre Maison. Since the intense rioting in February 2019 and the COVID-19 break out anger, frustration, thirst, and hunger continues to cripple the city of Port-Au-Prince. There are areas that depend on trips to the city to get clean drinking water, and those people are going without, due to continual road blocks and gangsters demanding money to get through. A few of Gertrude’s employees are from these areas, and thankfully, they are able to stay at Notre Maison. However, this means Gertrude has even more mouths to feed.
Thanks to previous gifts from donors and her good management, Gertrude has clean water and fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. Unfortunately, the water filter needs to be cleaned soon and she is having trouble getting the technician to come out. The garden is a few miles from the orphanage, and it is sometimes unsafe to drive there. She is having trouble supplying chicken and she is unable to kill a pig, as the electricity is so undependable she cannot run the freezers. A small bag of rice that used to cost $13 now costs $19; a small bag of beans that used to cost $16 now costs $30. There are beans growing in the garden now and Gertrude worries they may be stolen. |
“I am really gifted in some ways to have 5 gourdes, but I must make it last like 100 gourdes,” writes Gertrude. “I manage what I have in order to always have something to feed the kids but I don’t have control of the gas for generator or cooking. I use charcoal for cooking when I can’t find gas. Some people use rain water to drink, and there is no rain. I wonder what God is trying to show us. People are knocking at the gate all the time looking for food. Thanks for your prayers, please continue keeping us in your prayer.”
One bright spot is that most of the children are now back in school. This creates a feeling of purpose and normalcy for the children. But really things are not sustainable in Haiti at this point. There is very little news coverage of this crisis, except for in the Miami area. Please share this information with your churches and friends, and of course, they need prayers! Although many well-known charities have already asked for additional funds to weather this crisis, Gertrude says she does not like to “beg”. If you find in your heart and your budget the possibility of sending funds to make things easier for the children, Gertrude is able to receive checks written to:
Notre Maison
c/o United Methodist Church of Kearney
1000 E. St. Hwy 92
Kearney, MO 64060, with Notre Maison written on the memo line.
Please write Notre Maison on the memo line. You may use the online giving link at https://kearneyfumc.org through the “Giving” tab. After you have created an account select Notre Maison as “where to give.” There is also a drop-down tab for the “Emergency Fund” to indicate your donations are for the recent need at Notre Maison/St. Joe’s.
God bless you all and keep up the prayers. The children depend on us!

Check out Ubuntu Jewelry
After visiting Notre Maison/St. Joe's in 2015, our wonderful friend Joslyn moved to New York City and started a jewelry company to give back to our wonderful children. She named the company Ubuntu.
"Ubuntu is a Zulu word and philosophy that is translated to “I am because we are” or “human kindness”. It is the belief that we are all connected by our humanity and we should love each other as such"
-Joslyn Fecik 15% of all her sales are given to help sponsor some of our children. We are so thankful for her work and the blessing we receive from it.
